Intimacy Direction
I truly believe that actors can only do their best work when working within their boundaries, in a space that values the people in the work as much as the work itself.
My work as an intimacy director and consent advocate involves establishing a culture of consent, creating a structure of choreography for moments of intimacy, and providing artists with tools for self-advocacy throughout a rehearsal and show process.
Starting in pre-production, I help directors determine non-negotiable moments of intimacy and create consent-based casting notices, so actors know exactly what they’re being asked to do and can fully consent to any role they accept. In the rehearsal room, I use de-loaded language and create the structure for intimate moments, adapting in the moment in response to actor needs and boundaries.
I truly believe there are a thousand ways to tell a story, and one can be found that works for the boundaries of everyone involved. The goal of my intimacy direction practice is to shift the rehearsal and performance space toward consent, self-advocacy, respect, and truly magnificent physical storytelling.
